What causes dark circles?
Dark circles may appear purple or bluish because the skin is so thin and translucent that one can easily see the underlying blood vessels. Stimulating collagen production in the under-eye area would help thicken the skin and reduce the appearance of dark circles. Several other factors can contribute to dark circles or puffy eyes:
Heredity – It runs in your family so you may have inherited it from your parents or grandparents.
Aging – The skin loses its elasticity and dark circles may appear
Prolonged crying
Lack of sleep or oversleeping
Fluid retention causes puffiness and dark circles
Unhealthy diet
Working for long hours in front of a computer
Excessive exposure to mobile screen and TV screen
Consumption of excessive caffeine
Dehydration

Some factors such as aging and genetics can’t be avoided. But one can do something about all the others. Drinking plenty of fluids, wearing sunscreen and sunglasses, getting enough sleep, having regular eye tests, and figuring out if you have any allergies are a good starting point. Some eye masks may help you to get rid of dark circles. Under-eye skincare requires specific DIY remedies at home.
- Cucumber and Potato Eye mask
When it comes to eye products, the temperature is key. Cooling ingredients reduce puffiness and relax the eye. This pack is meant to be applied chilled. The hero of this mask is a potato that is known for brightening the under-eyes. Milk cream contains lactic acid, which is a mild chemical exfoliant that brightens and smoothens the skin. It also contains loads of moisturizing lipids to fortify and smoothen rough and dry under eyes. Since dark circles are often caused by dryness, this mask makes under-eye skin look nourished and silky. Cucumbers contain Vitamin K, which helps reduce the veiny-ness around the eyes by preventing blood from rogue capillaries pooling there. Cucumbers, due to their water content, stay cool for a long time once refrigerated, making eyes less puffy. Tea contains caffeine which is great at reducing fluid accumulation under the eyes and also reduces puffiness. This mask essentially treats every external issue that leads to under-eye circles, be it puffiness, dryness, dark circles, or dullness.
